Original Handmade Watercolor Paintings From Tavira, Faro, Douro Valley, and Azores, Portugal

Let’s continue our journey in Portugal through my original handmade aguarela paintings. If you would like to join me, I am sharing with you today five of watercolors from my Portugal Artworks Collection, this time we visit Tavira, Faro, the Douro Valley, and the Azores.

Ponte Romana in Tavira Portugal Painting

The first artwork is my watercolor painting about the Ponte Romana, Roman Bridge in Tavira Algarve Portugal. This painting was inspired by my own photograph, it is a result of our recent visit to Tavira.

The second painting is inspired by the same visit, an old traditional portuguese house in Tavira, with blooming bougainvillea.

View to the Douro Valley in Portugal Painting by Dora Hathazi Mendes

The next one is a commissioned watercolor painting, a beautiful view to the Douro Valley in Portugal, in the Mesao Frio municipality situated in the Douro demarcated wine region, which famous by its beautiful landscape to the hills and terraces, and for wine-making by producing white and red wines, Douro DOC, table wines, Douro’s regional wines, Port wines, and Vintage Port.

With the next painting we jump to the Azores, a watercolor painting about a beautiful view on the Pico Island.

Faro Portugal Painting Old House with Bougainvillea

In 2023 we have spent a wonderful three days discovering Algarve, especially Faro and around. This last original handmade watercolor painting is the result of our visit, inspired by my own photograph, about an old house in the historic centre of Faro with blooming bougainvillea.

Welcome in my Paintings from Portugal blog about introducing my paintings I have done about my adoptive country. Five watercolors to share with you from my Portugal Artworks Collection , I hope you will enjoy them.

A watercolor painting about Sao Miguel in the Azores, which is often nicknamed as The Green Island, because it is famous of its jewel coloured lakes, and beautiful green landscape due to its fertile volcanic soil.

Pastel Sky in Aveiro Portugal Painting by Dora Hathazi Mendes

A watercolor painting about Aveiro in Portugal. Well, it was one of those days in Aveiro, you know that pastel sky with the pink a light blue colors, when everything looks so peaceful and soft.
Aveiro is a beautiful place at the west coast of Portugal, a maritime city with water in its soul.
The cityscape is divided by canals, set along a lagoon called Ria de Aveiro. The gondola style painted traditional boats of Aveiro called Moliceiros were used originally to harvest seaweed, which were used as fertiliser in the agriculture, now are tourist vessels. On a tour with these boats, you can admire the Art Nouveau style houses painted for pastel colours along the quays in the Rossio area.

Happy to see you in my Portugal paintings blog, this time we are going to visit Cascais, Azores, Aveiro, Obidos and Algarve through my watercolors.

A windmill painting from the Pico Island of Azores, which described by the locals as Land Of Windmills. This beautiful traditional mill is standing at Ponta Rasa, it has been restored to preserve the memory of the old times.

Cascais Portugal Paintings by Dora Hathazi Mendes Karavella Atelier

Returning to one of my favourite spots in Cascais! A new watercolor about this beautiful place.
Most tourists, visiting Portugal has on their list Lisbon, Porto, Algarve, or Sintra, also just to mention some of the typical spots, but there is a charming small town, just right outside Lisbon, which must be included as well. It is away the hustle from the capital Lisbon, and has everything. Sunny beaches, traditional mosaic sidewalks, museums, ocean viewpoints, historical buildings with fortress, natural attractions like the Boca de Inferno or Mouth of Hell, and so on.

One of the most famous spot where you can take your postcard photographs, is at the Casa de Santa Maria, which is a Mediterranean style villa build in 1902 as a summer home for a royal family, and became a museum now with traditional painted tiles, arches, and oil painted walls.
It is sharing the coastline with a blue and white striped Lighthouse with red top, and from the adjoining bridge you have a gorgeous view, and amazing atmosphere.

Dusk in Aveiro, new watercolor in my Portugal Paintings Collection, which was inspired by my own photograph.

A painting about one of my favourite village Obidos, inspired by my own photograph I took during our last visit to this beautiful medieval gem in Portugal. A charming cobblestoned street with blooming Trumpet Vine and hydrangeas on a pleasant sunny day.
