Welcome back to my blog, introducing my paintings about Portugal. Five recent watercolors to share with you from my Portugal Artworks Collection, this time we visit two medieval villages, the beautiful streets of Marvao, and also Obidos, Sintra Cabo Da Roca and Praia da Mira.

The first painting is a watercolor about a street with hydrangeas, in Marvao Portugal.
Marvão is an enchanting village in the Alentejo region in Portugal, set on a great granite escarpment, one of those old enchanted places in the whole southern Europe which worth a visit .

It is described as an eagle’s nest hidden away in the hills. You will walk here between 13th century walls, with whitewashed houses, narrow streets, and medieval archways, wrought iron balconies, vintage street candles, an old castle which seems rise from a living rock, so practically everything typical from a delightful picture postcard village.

Another painting about Marvao inspired by my own photograph, about the most beautiful medieval window with climbing red roses, in a picturesque village in Alentejo Portugal.

The next is a watercolor painting about the traditional fishing boats Xavegas on the Praia de Mira, which is situated on the Silver Coast, near Coimbra, between Figueira da Foz and Aveiro.

A recent Watercolor Painting about a beautiful view to the Cabo Da Roca Lighthouse in Portugal.
Aqui, onde a terra se acaba e o mar começa … quote from Luis Camões, in his famous book ‘Os Lusíadas’, says here, where the land ends and the sea begins. It was how Camões described the Cabo da Roca ‘ as it is situated at the continental Europe’s westernmost point.
The lighthouse Cabo Da Roca is a beautiful touristic attraction close to Cascais and Sintra.

Let’s continue our journey in Portugal through my paintings. If you would like to join me, sharing with you five watercolors from my Portugal Artworks Collection, this time we visit the fishing town Ericeira, Medieval village Obidos, Praia de Mira, and Porto.

A watercolor painting about Sao Miguel in the Azores, which is often nicknamed as The Green Island, because it is famous of its jewel coloured lakes, and beautiful green landscape due to its fertile volcanic soil.

A watercolor painting about Aveiro in Portugal. Well, it was one of those days in Aveiro, you know that pastel sky with the pink a light blue colors, when everything looks so peaceful and soft.
Aveiro is a beautiful place at the west coast of Portugal, a maritime city with water in its soul.
The cityscape is divided by canals, set along a lagoon called Ria de Aveiro. The gondola style painted traditional boats of Aveiro called Moliceiros were used originally to harvest seaweed, which were used as fertiliser in the agriculture, now are tourist vessels. On a tour with these boats, you can admire the Art Nouveau style houses painted for pastel colours along the quays in the Rossio area.

Azores Ponta Do Arnel Lighthouse watercolor by Dora Hathazi Mendes

Painting about the Farol da Ponta do Arnel. This beautiful Lighthouse and octagonal building is located in the extreme northeast of the island São Miguel, on the tip of Arnel. Was the first Farol in the Azores, built at the end of the 19th century.

And finally about an old gate in Portugal. A typical rural gate to a farm or quinta, with azulejo (Portuguese name for tiles) , bougainvillea and hydrangea blooming. Inspired by my own photograph I took in 2012 in Vila Nogueira de Azeitão.

Azenhas Do Mar Painting by Dora Hathazi Mendes Karavella Atelier

An original watercolor painting about Azenhas do Mar, which is a charming seaside fishing village in the municipality of Sintra, Portugal. It is located just 30 km away from Lisboa, near Cabo da Roca, Palácio da Pena, and other attractions. It is famous from the fantastic view to the Atlantic Ocean, and a spectacular natural swimming pool created at the bottom of the rocks.

Painting about the Felgueiras Lighthouse in Porto, located at the Foz do Douro, where the river enters the Atlantic Ocean, and frequently the waves became large and crushing against it. A beautiful hexagonal, 10 meters high building, with red balcony and roof was built in the 19th century.

Paintings from Portugal by Karavella Atelier

Five recent artworks to share with you from my Portugal Paintings Collection, and also an exciting news! I opened end of September my new Karavella Atelier Etsy Shop, for my available Portugal Paintings. I just finished to set up my art shop by adding 50 listings on the first three weeks, and was super happy that already sold 3 original paintings during this very short time. One painting already arrived to the United States, and the satisfied buyer let the first 5 stars review on my shop, the second is on the way to the UK, and the third one will be going also to US. Camilo Beach, or in Portuguese Praia do Camilo is one of the most beautiful beaches in Lagos Portugal, and also among the beaches of the world. It is a small white sandy beach at Algarve, with typical rugged Limestone rocks, and also a tunnel through the rocks which lead to a smaller beach just right next to it. A postcard perfect paradise with incredible view from the wooden walkway which lead us from the top, till the crystal clean water of the Atlantic ocean.

Twilight at Ria Formosa, in Olhão Portugal. A commissioned watercolor painting about a magical night, beautiful lights and colors at dusk at one of the most amazing places of Algarve, the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, which famous about a unique coastal lagoon. A landscape which always changing because of the continuous movement of currents, tides and winds.
Olhão is one of the most stunning town, and the largest fishing port of the Algarve, only ten minutes by car from Faro, a getaway to the most amazing islands of Portugal.

A painting about the beautiful town of Bragança (in English Braganza or Braganca) , a medieval hidden treasure in Tras-os-Montes the extreme North East of Portugal, literally “Behind the Mountains”, a place which could preserve its medieval charm between its walls.
The Town stands on a plateau only few kilometres from the Spanish border, where you can experience a time travelling with ancient stone houses, a castle which still stand date from the 12th century.

Alfanzina Lighthouse Algarve Portugal painting by Dora Hathazi Mendes

A watercolor painting about evening hours at the Alfanzina Lighthouse ( Farol de Alfanzina) at Carvoeiro Algarve Portugal.
This Lighthouse was built on the rocks in the place of Alfanzina, Praia do Carvoeiro, on the Atlantic Ocean, in the municipality of Lagoa in 1920, first was knows as ‘Cabo Carvoeiro do Algarve’. A white Square tower lighthouse with red cylindrical lantern to assist the navigations of the vessels on the Atlantic Ocean.

A watercolor painting about the Ferragudo Church in sunset. Ferragudo is a attractive fishing village, a hidden gem with traditional charm located at the mouth of the Rio Arade estuary in Algarve. Cobbled streets leads up to the Igreja Ferragudo, and from its terrace you enjoy a beautiful view over the Arade to Portimão and of the closest beach, Praia da Angrinha.
